Anthropic brought in $16.8 billion in the third quarter, up 45% from the previous three months, according to Reuters. Its source attended the company’s investor meeting in San Francisco on 14 October.

Reported revenue was $4.7 billion in the first quarter and $11.6 billion in the second. The latest figure covers July to September.

A profit, with adjustments

Anthropic also told the investors it was profitable on an adjusted basis. Reuters did not give a profit figure or specify which costs had been excluded. Anthropic had not responded to its request for comment. 1

The missing breakdown makes it hard to judge whether the business covered all its costs.

The cost of keeping up

The company is seeking an IPO valuation above $2 trillion. Reuters says the listing is likely to come after the November US midterm elections. 1

Its computing obligations extend much further. In September, Reuters reported that Anthropic expected to spend at least $518 billion over a decade with six infrastructure partners. About 80% was non-cancelable or payable even if the capacity went unused, according to the confidential prospectus it reviewed.

Barclays is among the companies expanding their use of Claude. Anthropic said on 1 October that more than 16,000 Barclays staff had adopted a Claude-powered knowledge assistant. The bank also expected half its developers to use Claude Code by the end of 2026.

The announcement gave no contract value, so it cannot tell us how much revenue a rollout of that size brings in.
