OpenAI could release new Astra and Sol models as early as Friday, 6 November, according to The Information. We shared the report on X today. That would put both updates just two days away, although the date could still move. 1 2
The Astra part caught our attention straight away. On 1 November, we shared screenshots of Codex usage analytics with a new entry: gpt-6.2-astra. It appeared alongside the existing Astra name, including in the capture above. 4
Our guess is that the Astra update in this report could be GPT-6.2 Astra. The identifier turning up over the weekend fits the timing. We are drawing that connection ourselves, though: the final release names are still open, and the material we have does not establish a version number for the new Sol.
Sol arriving alongside Astra is worth watching too. If both get updated at once, the gap between them becomes the interesting question. How much better will Astra be on difficult coding and agent work, and how much of that will Sol offer?
We covered Terra’s launch last week, where lower API prices were the clearest selling point and the benchmark picture was mixed. With Astra and Sol potentially arriving together, we would expect Astra to give people a convincing reason to pick it over Sol. That is the part we are most curious about.
